Q&A

Why are you called Zaddy's Wood Designs?
The shop name comes from a combination of my children's names - my son Zach and my daughter Addy. Occasionally they get involved in the spoon making process but they are a bit young for using woodworking tools (you might see them in pictures though!).
Where is your shop located?
Zaddy's Wood Designs is a wood shop located in a garage in Breslau, Ontario, a beautiful small community on the east side of the Grand River in Waterloo Region.
Where is your wood sourced?
The hardwood used to create your kitchen helper is sourced from locally salvaged trees in southwestern Ontario, mainly from a sawyer in Peterborough.
Is every hardwood item the same design?
Sizes and wood grain can vary slightly as all the products are handmade and each piece has its own characteristics. Choose your unique piece and enjoy the different options available!
Why does my hardwood item feel fuzzy after a while?
The item has been sanded rather than knife finished but this can leave the wood feeling slightly rough after washing. Scrub it (when dry) with a cheap Scotch Brite or “no name” non-abrasive plastic scrubbing pad till smooth (or fine sandpaper if you have some).
My wooden item looks dry in spots
If the wood looks dry, apply one of these:
Coconut oil, hemp oil, walnut oil, food grade linseed oil, flax oil, a commercial salad bowl finish or food grade mineral oil. See the care instructions on this site for more information.
