Care Instructions
Caring for your Wooden Utensils, Boards and Bowls
1. Wash them by hand in warm soapy water
2. Never put them in the dishwasher: the high heat and humidity can cause the wood to crack
3. Never let them soak in water for long periods as they will absorb water and may crack when they dry
Stain Removal
If the wood acquires a stain, rub a bit of salt and lemon juice on the area - this should do the trick to clean it up.
Bowls; Charcuterie/Cheese/Cutting Boards; Dry Scoops (e.g. Coffee scoops)
A wax finish is applied to dry scoops, bowls and boards.
1. For dry scoops, simply wipe your scoop with a clean cloth.
2. If you notice your bowl or board looks dry or is losing its luster, apply Bold Hirsute Wood Butter, Howard Butcher Block Conditioner or any food-safe butcher block conditioner.
Maintenance - Keep your Wooden Utensils Looking Beautiful
- If the wood feels a bit fuzzy after washing, scrub it (when dry) with a non-abrasive scrubbing pad til smooth (e.g. Scotch Brite) or fine sandpaper if you have some
- If the wood looks dry or patchy, apply one of these:
Coconut oil, hemp oil, walnut oil, food grade linseed oil, flax oil, a commercial salad bowl finish or food grade mineral oil.
1. Make sure the wood is completely dry
2. Apply oil with a rag or your fingers. Let it soak in for a few minutes.
3. Wipe off excess oil with a rag or paper towel and buff it.
4. Let it dry overnight before using.
